  1. Save you money with energy efficiency as a top priority
  2. Increasing your home's market value
  3. Making your home eco-friendlier by reducing your carbon footprint

How Can I Use the Greener Homes Grant?

The Greener Homes Grant is a federal program that gives out a maximum of $5,600 to homeowners to cover their costs of retrofitting their homes to make them more eco-friendly and energy efficient. Up to 700,000 grants will be offered to support retrofitting existing homes and your home might be next!

What Products/Services Are Covered?

The grant seeks to reimburse homeowners up to $5,600 in retrofits depending on the scale of the project. All these retrofits must be done with the purpose of making your home more energy efficient. This therefore includes but is not limited to:

  • Window and door replacement
  • Home insulation
  • Heating equipment
  • Renewable energy sources
  • Air sealing
  • And more!

A separate fee of up to $600 will be covered separately by the Greener Homes Grant. This includes the cost of an EnerGuide energy audit which is necessary to determine your eligibility for the program.

Finding Out Your Eligibility for the Grant

In order to be eligible, a homeowner must match the following criteria:

  1. You are purchasing 100% Canadian-made and purchased products (BigCity Windows and Doors is a proudly 100% Canadian brand)
  2. All manufacturers and products need to be registered with the NRCan database and be rated by EnergyStar (all BigCity Windows and Doors products are registered)

Some Frequently Asked Questions

Is the energy audit included in the grant?

Yes, but not as part of the home retrofitting cost. It is included separately as an additional grant of up to $600 covered by the program.

How much can I receive per each window and door replacement?

  • $250 per rough opening (framed opening for a window) for ENERGY STAR's 2021 most energy efficient rated windows
  • $125 per rough opening for ENERGY STAR's 2021 high energy efficient rated windows
  • $125 per ENERGY STAR rated doors (includes entry doors and sliding patio doors)

How Can I Determine My Reimbursement Amount?

The amount you receive is calculated by number of rough openings, not by number of window panes (i.e. a bay and bow windows with many frames will still only count as one unit as it is only one rough opening).

Will Repairs Be Covered by The Grant?

Unfortunately only full replacements are covered. Glass or sash-only repairs are not eligible.

Is The Grant Retroactive?

Yes, if you replaced your windows after December 1st, 2020, or conducted a pre-evaluation after April 1st, 2020, but didn't perform the actual replacement, your windows and doors are still eligible. If you completed the replacement before the first aforementioned date, you are unfortunately ineligible.

What Paperwork Do I Need?

All documents, receipts and invoices showing your transactions and eligibility with us and the EnerGuide energy suit are necessary for both pre- and post-retrofit evaluations to determine the amount you are eligible for.

Can I Receive Grant Money Even If I'm Not Explicitly Recommended?

At least one of your retrofits requires an explicit recommendation by an EnerGuide energy audit to warrant a grant. If your other retrofits aren't specifically stated, they might not be eligible, contact NRCan for more information at 1-833-674-8282 or email at

Why Replace My Windows and Doors?

Windows and doors provide you with the greatest eligibility for the program. Although they are one of the more expensive home upgrades, their reimbursement fees are big to match. Additionally, windows and doors have a very high return on investment upon resale.
